Letter to Surrey Advertiser
In the Surrey Advertiser of 23rd June, Chris Ward (‘Anti-gay bigotry is inexcusable’) wrote very eloquently against homophobia. I echo his concerns, but I believe it is a pity he expressed his views with his ‘political’ hat on. How much more powerfully his views would have come across if politics had not come into it.
I believe we live in a tolerant democracy. This not only upholds and defends personal freedoms without the need to legislate for absolutely everything; it also requires its participants and stakeholders to have full regard to the wants and needs of others. Mr Ward has highlighted an area in which we should all (irrespective of creed, colour, race, religion or politics) strive to be more tolerant.
